Etched plates offer a similar look to cast plaques except they allow for
smaller letters and much finer detail than cast plaques. Many materials can be
etched, and are less expensive that zinc, but only zinc can successfully be used outdoors
and withstand the elements of nature.
Primary Uses:
Interior and Exterior memorial plaques and signage. (For interior signage
we use magnesium which looks the same but is much less expensive).
With either a gold or silver raised portion of the sign, the
background can be virtually any color you choose.

Etched copper with raised text. Photograph is computer
generated line drawing.
Etched zinc with custom color background. Computer generated
line drawing of photograph.
Advantages:
Flexibility in sizing.
Wide range of background colors available: most any enamel paint color is
available.
Not limited by cast type sizes. Layout is computer generated so layout can made
to fit most applications.
Finer detail is obtainable than with cast plaques.
Photographs can be reproduced as line drawings.
Disadvantages:
Price, large pieces can be more expensive than bronze.
Vandal resistance is low to moderate.
Zinc is softer than cast aluminum and can be scratched by other
metal objects.
The thinner pieces must be mounted to a firm flat surface.
Chemically cleaning could damage the enamel background.
